I'm so thrilled to be linking up with the Weekend Warriors again, especially because I’m ON TIME this month. #thankyousummervacation We wanted to get to know each other better, so we’re sharing all about ourselves this time around.
Here
we go!
1 | Last year I made the move
from second grade to first. I was definitely comfortable in second, but I have
enjoyed the experience of teaching first grade. It has definitely been more of
adventure than I was anticipating. I had a challenging student for the first
half of the year. This made the adjustment to my new school and grade more
difficult, but I took it all in stride because I was so thrilled with my new
school site. It’s not Disneyland, but I have such a supportive administration,
staff and team.
2 | My favorite part of the
day is math time! It’s always so fun to see the connections that students make
and to create fun math activities. Many of my students often shared that their
favorite part of the day was math stations. I recently attended professional
development on Cognitively Guided Instruction and will be
trying it out next year. I’m nervous, but excited at the same time! It was
great to hear teachers share how their students have grown as a result of
changing their instruction.
3 | Although some teachers
might not like a noisy classroom, I think it’s great! I’m not talking packed
auditorium loud. But I do enjoy a buzz of chatter and giggles.
1 | I have a collection of
“art supplies” that is out of control. I used to sketch, but lately I’ve only
made time to doodle in my planner. I recently
purchased two fauxdoris from Cakepaperie and am beginning to use them as a creative
outlet. I’ve got watercolor pens, ink pens, gel pens, sharpies, stamps, and color
pencils.
2 | It’s hard to admit this…
I’m a couch potato at heart. I really enjoy staying home and hanging out on the
couch. It’s terrible, but I’ve slowly gotten my husband to enjoy staying in as
well. I LOVE LOVE chillin’ on the couch and watching Netflix or anything on our
DVR. Oh yeah, we DVR a lot on shows. Some of my favorite summer shows are
Master Chef, Big Brother, and So You Think You Can Dance.
I love sharing my ideas, but I get so nervous talking
to a group of grown ups. Every time I’ve presented or shared with my colleagues
at our faculty meetings I’ve turned red thanks to my nerves. My husband has
presented at numerous professional developments at the university where he
works and national conferences. I would love to be able to do the same with
just as much confidence.

Fellow couch potato here!! I love rainy/overcast summer days so I don't feel guilty for just chillin' inside!

Fellow couch potatoes unite! Sitting on the couch and watching TV is my favorite! In fact, right now, I'm sitting on the couch reading blogs. Haha! Math is one of my favorite subjects to teach too! It's so easy to bring it to life, to incorporate hands on learning, and just have lots of fun. I love your attitude of taking things in stride. Great reminder to us all!

Primarily Speaking
Hi Carol! So glad to meet you through our linky! My husband and I LOVE our POTATO time on Saturdays!!! I know exactly what you mean!!! Great Math reference. I am checking out the book now!
ReplyDeleteI agree that a noisy classroom is so much better than a quiet one! I want my kiddos to talk to each other (on topic of course!). I would love to see you present so I hope you get to check that one off soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

Always Kindergarten
Love this! I too enjoy a noisy classroom! That's when I know they are having FUN! Math is also my favorite and wish I could teach just that. I do enjoy some couch time and Netflix. I think we all need that every once in a while!

Saddle Up For 2nd Grade
I also love teaching math!!! I actually put that on my 3-2-1 post!! I love how hands on it is. I started using math stations with my students this past year after reading Debbie Diller's Math Work Stations book and my students loved them! Thanks so much for sharing about yourself!

Recipe for Teaching
I am trying to embrace the noisy buzz of a classroom. I love a nice quite classroom (not all day), but I need to learn how to deal with a little noise throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteI was once in a training where an educational expert from Japan said that a noisy classroom is a sign of deep learning. Ever since then I've tried to make more of an effort to have my kids have more time to talk and discuss what we are learning by working together.
ReplyDeletePresenting…I'm not a fan. My nerves always get the best of me. In a small group, I'm all about discussing and sharing my ideas but put me in front of everyone and it's over. I'm so jealous of people like your husband who can just stand up and talk to large groups of people. Maybe we can work on that together? ;-)
I love teaching math too!! It would be so neat to present at a conference!

A Sunny Day in First Grade
It's taken me a few years, but I now love the quiet hum of a classroom. I would also love to present at a conference some day, but don't know how to start!

I am a couch potato by choice too! I love settling down for the evening with a cup of tea, blanket, and some reality TV...simply the best! I would love to present at a conference too. I just need to get up the courage and do it! -Jaime
